Travel and transport
Orxeta was, due to its geographic setting, between the coast and the interior of the Alicante province, a main stopping place for travellers on foot and by horse and cart. In Orxeta’s inns the travellers and their horses rested and were re-supplied. Travel by horse was the most common means of transport on the hard and arduous journeys along the dusty roads of the region, until way into the 20th century.
