The iberian period

A number of Iberian strongholds have been found in the Municipal area of Orxeta located near to the course of the river Sella and on top of small hills. The Iberians brought about changes to the natural surroundings and to the pattern of settlement of earlier periods. For the first time, we can talk about real towns that controlled territories both politically and economically. These contained smaller, mostly agricultural settlements, which were dependant on the towns. These territories would also have been defended by watch towers situated in strategic points, watching over the borders.
