Towards the end of the eighteenth century the town had a very small population, the expulsion of Moors, just 223 residents, dedicated to agricultural work.
They have cited as a witness through the work of Cavanilles in his "Observations on the Natural History, Geography, Agriculture, Population and Fruit of the Kingdom of Valencia (1795-1797), devoted to work as the father of geography and Enlightenment Valencia and Spanish:
"Orxeta, a town of 223 residents, at least engaged in cultivating their ungrateful term, which has more than two hours from east to west between Finestrat and Aygües, low and middle from north to south between the Relleu, Sella and Villajoyosa . In the vicinity of the population is small and beautiful plains thefts, and the rest of the term several sites including fertile and barren rocks, where 1 @ graze cattle, yielding 800 pesos. In this and the next term of Relleu much gypsum mines and some alabastrite, but in general are limestone mountains. Orxeta fruit are regulated by 800 pounds of silk, 200 cahices pure wheat, barley mixed with the 600, 400, barley, maize 500, 50, beans, lentils and other pulses, 1 @ arrobas almond, locust bean @ 16, 150, aceyte, 700 figs, 2 @ fruit, much of peaches, 1 @ jugs of wine and various vegetables, not only for consumption of the people but also to sell to the surrounding. It's favorable climate for silkworms, and thus bring the neighbors sheet for other peoples of the higher yields that could be produced with their gardens."
